Whether you’ve never seen a dietitian or your previous experiences with dietitians were negative - we want to eliminate some of the guesswork and any anxiety you might feel by giving you the low-down on what you can expect at Vita Nutrition Services.
What can you expect at Vita Nutrition Services?
We are with you for the journey, and will meet you where you’re at. We’re easy going and we try not to be super clinical (unless you ask the super clinical questions!). We understand that this is YOUR journey, and we’re just along for the ride. That’s why we will ask lots of questions and listen to you. Your experiences with your body, health and food matter. You know your body better than anyone else. We draw attention to your practical, physical, and emotional needs. You will get a goal sheet of what you are working on going forward, and we work as a team to help you meet those goals.
What we WON’T do
We’ve heard too many stories of bad dietitian experiences and understand how personal this journey is for you.
- No info dumping
- No judgment
- No shaming
- No saying “you’re making that up”
- No dismissing how you’re feeling
- No stupidly high expectations
We are honored to be a part of our clients’ health goals and we do not take that for granted. We won’t just give you 75 handouts and say “good luck!” or diminish how hard it is to eat well on your busy schedule. We’ve all struggled with eating well and taking care of our bodies at one time or another (and more than one time!) so we understand that there’s no quick fix. It’s NOT a matter of just being disciplined or organized enough. Eating well is complicated and everyone is different. Do we wish it was easy-peasy? Sure, but dietitians and nutrition counselors exist for a reason.
You can rest assured that when you walk through those doors or power up your laptop for a video call that you will be met with kindness and realistic (human sized) expectations. We won’t make unrealistic plans or shame you if you can’t make those goals. We’ll talk through it and adjust.
What about if I’ve got mental health issues?
Our biggest referral source are therapists so we are informed about mental health issues and will factor those into your care. Anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, or other issues get intertwined with your relationship with food and your body. It’s only natural, and not weird at all. We will work with you to help you (along with other mental health professionals) to understand and work through those issues and give you tools to eat well and feel good in your body despite mental health struggles.
How do I get started?
There are multiple ways to set up an appointment, you can use the appointment link, call, or text! We love to text! Our 816 number is secure and the information you share is private. You can also email us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
How long will I need counseling?
Obviously everyone is different, but we think no matter who you are you can definitely benefit from at least a few appointments. We have clients who we’ve been seeing for years and some that come and go. We’re here when you need that extra help and guidance.
It should go without saying, but if you don’t feel comfortable with your counselor and would like to try someone else you can absolutely do that.
In-person Appointments
If you live locally and would prefer in-person dietitian services, we are located in Collingswood, NJ. We’ve got our own parking lot so don’t worry about parallel parking! We try to have a comfy living room feel.
If you have any questions about what to expect, contact us and we will be happy to help. It can be intimidating to seek help with your nutrition, but we know how worth it it is! Let us be your guide and answer any questions you have.
